Macron Warns Iran Against Escalation in Israel-Hamas Conflict
French President Emmanuel Macron has issued a warning to Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi regarding the Israel-Hamas conflict. Macron's message, conveyed by the Elysee presidential palace, emphasizes the need to prevent any escalation or extension of the conflict between Israel and Hamas. He particularly cautioned against the conflict spilling into Lebanon in a recent phone call with the Iranian president.
The French presidency stated, "Iran, given its relations with Hezbollah and Hamas, has a responsibility and must do its utmost to avoid any regional conflagration."
Macron further emphasized the importance of unequivocally condemning terrorist attacks carried out by Hamas in Israel. He reaffirmed Israel's right to self-defense and the need to eliminate terrorist groups that pose a threat to its population. He also stressed that the release of hostages, including French nationals, is a top priority for France.
Additionally, Macron addressed the humanitarian situation in Gaza, emphasizing the necessity of taking all measures to protect civilians and uphold international humanitarian law. France is actively collaborating with the United Nations to support humanitarian operations in Gaza, where more than one million people have been displaced due to Israeli bombardments and the looming threat of a ground attack targeting Hamas commanders, as reported by the UN.
