BREAKING: Drama As Oyo Indigenes Protest Delay In Selection Of New Alaafin

On Tuesday, a group of Oyo town natives staged a peaceful protest at the entrance of the Oyo High Court in Awe, expressing their concern over the delay in the selection of a new Alaafin. They carried placards with various inscriptions, such as "Oyo Mesi follows tradition, not money," "Alaafin stool is not for sale," "On Alaafin: Let dignity reign," and "Alaafin: Due process, Ife consultation are sacrosanct," among others.

Meanwhile, the High Court sitting in Oyo, Oyo State, adjourned the case brought by five kingmakers against the state Governor, Seyi Makinde, the state Commissioner for Local Governments and Chieftaincy Matters, and the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, regarding the vacant stool of Alaafin of Oyo, to Thursday, October 2. The kingmakers in Oyo town, known as Oyo Mesi, have taken legal action against the governor and others for obstructing the process of selecting/appointing a candidate to fill the vacant Alaafin of Oyo stool.

The claimants include Basorun of Oyo, High Chief Yusuf Ayoola; Laguna of Oyo, High Chief Wakeel Oyedepo; Akiniku of Oyo, High Chief Amuda Yusuf; Areago Basorun of Oyo, High Chief Wahab Oyetunji; Alapo of Oyo; and Warrant Officer for Alaapini of Oyo, Chief Gbadebo Mufutau, who were all present in court.
