Why Mohbad was quickly buried – Father

Joseph Aloba, the father of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, widely known as Mohbad, has shed light on the swift burial of his son, who tragically passed away at the young age of 27 on September 12. His funeral took place just a day after his demise.

In a recent interview shared on Instagram by Temilola Sobola, Aloba explained that the rapid burial was in accordance with Yoruba culture. He emphasized that in Yoruba tradition, it's customary not to delay the burial of a deceased individual when both parents are alive. He further stated that had Mohbad been older at the time of his passing, the option of keeping his body in a mortuary for a later date might have been considered.

Aloba also disclosed that the land where his son was laid to rest was owned by Mohbad himself. He had given it to him with the intention of building a church. The decision for an immediate burial was made in line with Yoruba customs and the belief that the corpse should not be kept when both parents are alive.

He stated, "In Yoruba land, his corpse is not the kind to be kept when both of his parents are still alive."

Aloba clarified, "That land where Mohbad was buried is his only land, that is the only land I know him to have owned. Truly he gave me the land to build my church because we had both agreed to build the church there and since that’s the only land I knew him to have."

Mohbad, formerly signed to Marlian Music under Naira Marley's label, left the label in February 2022. His management recently announced a candlelight procession and tribute night in his honor. Additionally, the Lagos State Governor has invited the Department of Security Services to participate in the investigation of Mohbad's passing.
