Manchester United has suffered a significant loss, according to Jason McAteer.

Former Liverpool player, Jason McAteer, sheds light on the implications of Manchester United's recent defeat to Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena, marking their third consecutive loss upon returning to club action.

In the perspective of the 52-year-old, this defeat signifies a loss of identity for the Premier League club, which was once a formidable force to reckon with. Their underwhelming start to the season and UEFA Champions League campaign have eroded their reputation.

The clash at the Allianz Arena saw Manchester United succumb to a 4-3 defeat against the Bundesliga side. Throughout the 90 minutes, the Red Devils had to battle back from a 2-goal deficit at various points, ultimately sealing the game with a 4-3 loss on Wednesday night. Goals from Leroy Sane, Serge Gnabry, Harry Kane, and Mathys Tel sealed their fate in this promising encounter.

With four losses in their first six games of the 2023/24 season, Jason McAteer provides insight into the challenges Manchester United must address moving forward. He emphasizes that they are no longer a team to be feared, whether in the league or in European competitions.

Speaking on beIN SPORTS, the former midfielder underscores how Manchester United's current status is a far cry from the formidable team that used to strike fear into the hearts of opponents, even at Anfield.

"No one fears Manchester United anymore. They used to come to Anfield, and it would be like 'we are in a game today, we could lose this,'" McAteer recalls.

"We'd never feel like that about anybody, but obviously it was Man United who were dominant throughout the 1990s, so we'd be up against it. They had that fear factor, and they don't have that anymore," he states.

Furthermore, he highlights a loss of identity within the team, expressing that Manchester United no longer possesses the same aura of dominance they once did. They must come to terms with the reality that their past reputation no longer holds the same weight.
